Very slow and very dense writing, but I got quite into it towards the end. Don't think I could read the entire quartet though.
In post-war 1950s Naples residents of a small neighborhood struggle with poverty, old grudges and the strictures of tradition that define their lives. Two young girls form a bond over their shared passion for learning and the desire to rise above their circumstances.
